Lifetime Achivement Award to Zeki Uygur and Opening Brunch for the exhibit “Mind Reflections of a Brain Surgeon”

April 15- May 14

Date:  April 15th, between 11:30 am and 3:00 pm.

April 15, 2007 was a special day at Turkish Cultural Center, as we commemorated the achievements of one of the most prominent members of the Turkish-American community, Dr. Zeki Uygur. Dr. Uygur was presented with a lifetime achievement award and the opening gala was held for his exhibit, “Mind Reflections of a Brain Surgeon.” The paintings for the exhibit were all made by Dr. Uygur during the years he traveled from his home in Long Island into the city on the LIRR. The paintings reflected what he saw in the brain, and not only were they a way for him to relax before the numerous surgeries he performed but also represented a culmination of all he had gained from medicine. The audience was both large and diverse, filled with the many doctors who he had worked with side by side over the years, as well as young doctors who had grown up reading his accomplishments and other members of the Turkish-American community. Dr. Uygur’s exhibit was shown at the center from April 15 to May 14.
