In June, 2007
Haldun Yavas, Executive Director of Turkish Cultural Center,
accompanied about 15 guests on a trip to Turkey. Guests came from
all different backgrounds, including educators, musicians and those
in business. For many, the trip was their first time in Turkey, an
opportunity to encounter a new culture while making many new
friends. The trip started in Istanbul, where guests visited Topkapi
Palace, the Hagia Sophia, took a tour of the Bosporus on a boat and
even had the opportunity to visit the set of a well-known Turkish
cooking show. Afterwards, guests traveled to southern Turkey where
they were able to visit the ruins at Ephesus, the “Cotton Castle” (Cappadocia)
and even take a swim at one of Turkey’s sparkling beaches. The trip
however provided the guests not only the opportunity to visit
Turkey’s touristic attractions, but also immerse into Turkish
Culture. Our guests were able to visit Turkish schools and have the
opportunity to interact one on one with students. They also visited
one of the most renowned newspapers in Turkey and received a VIP
tour and most important of all they were able to visit Turkish
families and share not only meal and a cup of tea, but memories to
last a lifetime.
