TURKISH LANGUAGE COURSE DESCRIPTION

   Our Turkish studies department offers Turkish classes for anyone, whether you’re a beginner or an experienced speaker looking to sharpen your speaking skills. The classes are centered on learning Turkish grammar, developing proficient speaking and writing skills. Besides learning basic elements of Turkish, students are also offered business Turkish, travel Turkish and public speaking lessons on request.

Level I-II

Beginner levels:

·        Are for those who wish to acquire basic reading, writing and conversation skills in Turkish

·        Lay a solid foundation in the Turkish language.

·        Introduce to the students real situations and exercises to the basic structures and usage of language to manage simple situations in daily life.

Level III-IV

Intermediate levels:

·        Keep on strengthening both oral and written communication skills, emphasizing specific topics such as current events, traveling and issues related to Turkish culture.

·        Help students read and understand simple stories with the help of a dictionary.

·        Purpose for students to understand the main points of lectures and television programs.

·        Encourage students to write summaries, short essays and expressing opinions.

Level V-VI

Advanced levels:

·        Give students the opportunity to intensify their knowledge and to practice both oral and written expression and comprehension through socio-cultural themes.

·        Help out students reading and understanding newspaper articles, essays and short stories on various topics with the help of a dictionary.

·        Form an environment to discuss specialized topics and being able to describe, narrate and argue a point.

·        Are in shape to write organized and articulate summaries, accounts and critical essays.

·        Assist students to learn about the Turkish culture, society, and history.

Improve Turkish Skills

Strengthen your language skills at the beginner and intermediate levels with courses based on active conversation, and reading.

·        Travel Turkish I

·        Conversation

·        Business Turkish I

·        Discussion: Current events, films or literature

·        Turkish Movie Days (Cinema Fridays)

Explore Specialized Courses

Advanced students can explore Turkish culture through a variety of courses that focus on specialized topics including;

·        Travel Turkish II

·        Business Turkish II

·        Article Reading

·        Literature

·        Ottoman Language

·        Turkish over the Phone

Outdoor Activities

The classes are taken to:

·        Picnics

·        Native family visits

·        Trips to Turkey

·        Turkish breakfasts

Class Info

Classes are held mornings, afternoons and evenings, Monday through Sunday. 2 or 4 hours per week in 8-week program (depending on the class). Maximum of 8 students per class.

Instructors

Our teachers are native Turkish speakers who are fully qualified to teach Turkish as a second language.
